Listen to Your Body – A Yoga & Life Practice
"The quieter you become, the more you can hear." – Ram Dass
February was all about listening – not just to the music of life, but to the subtle, whispering voice of the body. In class, we softened the mind’s chatter, invited stillness, and tuned in to what was truly happening beneath the surface. No judgement, no force—just listening.
Why Listen to the Body?
Our minds love to run the show, narrating, analysing, and often overcomplicating things. But what if we let that monologue quiet down and allowed our bodies to speak? What if, instead of pushing through exhaustion, we rested? What if, instead of forcing a pose, we softened into it?
In yoga, as in life, the ego sometimes nudged us to go further, push harder, or keep up with others. But what if strength wasn’t about effort, but about knowing when to pause? Listening to the body is an act of self-trust—a practice of recognising when to lean in and when to let go.
Questions to Explore On and Off the Mat:
💫 Where in my body do I feel stuck? Can I breathe into that space?
💫 Am I allowing myself to move with ease, or am I holding back?
💫 What was my body whispering to me today?
Flowing Like Water – Connecting to the Sacral Chakra
In February, we wove our practice around the Sacral (Svādhiṣṭhāna) Chakra, the energy centre associated with flow, creativity, and emotional balance. Just like water, our bodies thrive when they move with ease, not resistance.
To support this, we revisited hip-opening poses—postures that created space for deep release, helping us let go of tension and invite fluidity. One of our favourites was:
Reclined Butterfly Pose (Supta Baddha Konasana)
A beautiful pose that gently opened the hips, grounded the body, and invited deep relaxation.
How we practiced:
✨ Lying on our backs, bringing the soles of our feet together, and letting the knees drop open.
✨ Supporting the knees with blocks or cushions if needed—this was about softness, not strain.
✨You can place one hand on the belly and one on the heart, breathing deeply into both spaces.
✨ Staying for 3-5 minutes, allowing the breath to guide awareness inward.
Why return to this pose?
Each time we revisited a pose, we met it (and ourselves) in a new way. The breath moved differently, the body released in new places, and awareness shifted. By slowing down and really feeling the pose, we honoured our evolution, both on and off the mat.
Listening Beyond the Mat
Listening to the body wasn’t just about yoga—it was about how we moved through life. It was about noticing when we needed rest, when we needed movement, and when we needed to set boundaries. It was about saving our energy for what truly mattered.
So, as we moved forward, I invited everyone to pause. Before saying yes to everything, before pushing past tiredness—taking a breath. Asking ourselves:
💫 What do I need right now?
A Gentle Reminder
We are not here to force ourselves into shapes—on the mat or in life. We are here to listen, honour, and move with grace, just like water.
May your practice be graceful, your breath be deep, and your heart be open to the whispers within. 💙
With gratitude,
